Nothing beats a messy sloppy joe. Growing up, this was easily one of my favorite meals my mom used to make. But who says Sloppy Joes can't be vegan and just as delicious?!
What makes these ones extra special is their smoky maple sloppy joe sauce. Perfect for a rustic summer dinner outside.

This recipe is brought to you in collaboration with Longève using their Plant-Based Protein Crumbles. These crumbles are 100% made from pea protein, so they are allergen-free, oil-free, and vegan!
RECIPE
Makes about 4
Ingredients
3 cups Plant-Based Protein Crumbles
1 1/2 cups hot water
1 tablespoon avocado oil
1 onion, diced small
1 bell pepper, diced small
3 large cloves garlic, finely minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1/3 cup barbeque sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
2 teaspoons vegan Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon brown mustard
1/4 cup water
1 tsp chili powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
Your favorite buns (I recommend pretzel buns)
Optional topping: Oil-Free Rainbow Slaw
Instructions
Add the oil in a pan on medium heat and add the onion, pepper, and salt. After a few minutes, add in the garlic.
In the meantime, in a bowl, add the 2 cups of Plant-Based Protein Crumbles together with the 1 1/2 cups hot water. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Once the onions are translucent, add in the soaked crumbles.
Add in the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
Cover with a lid and continue cooking over medium heat for about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Remove from heat and serve on your favorite bun (toasted pretzel buns are my favorite with this recipe!). I recommend adding our Oil-Free Rainbow Slaw in the bun and serving them with a side of The Best Oven-Baked Fries.

Enjoy!
