Have you been at home these last few weeks scrolling like never before on social media? Well, then you have most definitely heard about Dalgona Coffee aka Whipped Coffee.

WHAT IS IT?!
It's basically the opposite of a latte. Instead of whipping the milk, you whip the coffee. You also whip it until it forms stiff peaks and a silky (almost taffy-like) texture and then scoop it ON TOP of the milk.
It uses instant coffee, which we all know is not the greatest thing in the world but it actually really works in this recipe if you use a good brand that doesn't taste burnt!
You can serve it hot by warming the milk, but I prefer it iced. I find it maintains the creaminess the best that way.
WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?!
So you're probably wondering where and when this originated. Was it created out of boredom at home?
Variations of this drink actually come from different countries including India, Pakistan, and Macau. But its recent surge in popularity happened when it appeared on a Korean TV show called Pyunstorang in January. In it, actor Jung Il-Woot traveled to Macau, tried the drink, and gave it the nickname "Dalgona" because he thought it resembled the traditional Korean sponge candy of the same name.

This coffee creation has since caught the eye of Instagram, Youtube, and TikTok users all over the world, and now since everyone is home on their phones and people are trying out new things in the kitchen, it's gone viral!
SO HOW DO I MAKE IT?!
Feeling stir-crazy during this quarantine? You can get creative in the kitchen with this pretty simple recipe! And you most likely have what you need to make it at home already.
This aesthetic (and quite delicious) concoction is made of literally 4 simple ingredients: instant coffee, sugar, hot water, and milk. And it's all about whipping it to the right consistency using a hand mixer or whisking it by hand. If you do the latter, it will take about 10 minutes longer... and be prepared to work those arm muscles! But if you don't have a hand mixer, then the whisk is definitely doable.
Watch the recipe video tutorial here:
Ingredients
2 tablespoons instant coffee (decaf works too!)
2 tablespoons hot water
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
8 oz (240 ml) plant milk (I use my Creamy Oat Milk recipe)
optional: ice for serving
Instructions
In a medium bowl, add in the instant coffee, hot water, and sugar. Whip it using a hand blender or whisk until the mixture is thick enough to form stiff peaks.
In a glass, pour in your milk of choice and add a good amount of ice cubes.
Scoop your whipped coffee on top of the milk. You can drink it like that but it will taste much better if you mix together with the milk! Yum!

Stay safe, keep doing your part by social distancing yourself, and make this treat in the meantime ✨
Lots of love,
